2010 is almost upon us. What are you going to do? We’ll let you know when we’ve decided what we’re up to, but until then have a very groovy new year and we’ll see you in the spring.
The usual round of apologies has started slightly earlier than expected this edition. No doubt there’ll be some more to come but to kick us off with a good ‘un I’d just like to say sorry to Phil and liz from the Little Red Cafe at the top of Catherine Hill for completely forgetting to put their ad in the mag. It was a good looking one as well, designed by phil himself, so I’m gutted I did that, anyway, if you’re reading this and you fancy a coffee, head up to the place that was described by local filmaker and actor, Mark McGann, as ‘looking like a film set’ (and even more with the Christmas lights up) because he’s right and the staff are nice. and the coffee. See you there.
Hello
We’re just waiting for the winter edition to be dropped off ready for distribution around and about. When I get in to the office tomorrow morn I’ll upload it to the flippy page thing over there, on the right. We do have a ‘cut out and dispose of’ nativity scene on the front cover, so look out for that. This issue we’re asking really nicely if you wouldn’t mind donating a few pennies for your copy. I realise that means I’ll have to set about making some money tins with slots in but I don’t mind. Go on, dig deep. When you make your donation think about how good it feels to give. It really works!
Good day to you.
The new Furball is currently being carefully compiled even as I type. It will be with us mid November and promises to have the usual mix of amusing anecdotes, slightly nonsensical articles and lots of adverts to pay for the printing.
We hope to be dedicating a bit more time to this site as well, which has been slightly neglected of late. My apologies.
We here at Furball hq hope the people of Frome are well and we look forward to seeing you soon!
In the not too distant future Frome will be go bike potty. This is no bad thing, as I really like the idea of the whole world getting by on pedal power, although I think there may be some objectors out there. Why all the bike talk? I hear you cry. Well, on September the 17th the Sixth stage of the Tour Of Britain gets underway here, in Frome. That means lots of tight lycra and shaved legs and one or two TV cameras I suspect, so to celebrate this event, there will be all manner of bike related stuff going on in the week preceding the main event. I’m not sure how much detail I can go into now, but what I will do is keep you updated as and when things get firmed up. In the meantime, here’s a classic from days gone by. Honk honk!
Hello folk/s
Just a quick note to let you know that the printed Furball will be away for a few months. Well, until Christmas to be precise, so don’t worry. We’ll be back.
In the meantime we hope you’re all enjoying global warming. It’s a scorcher, isn’t it?
Ta ra for now.
Matt
The Furball was well and truly launched in style with a cracking bash at the Masonic hall last night. Well done to the guys and girls who spent all day decorating the venue, it looked fantastic and thanks to the bar staff for letting me ply everyone with that classic 70’s tipple, Babycham. We brought a few bottles to give away and it all got drunk funnily enough. The biggest thanks goes to everyone that came down and threw some shapes on the dancefloor. It was a killer night. More of those to come.
It’s that weekend again. Master Angeloro will be nipple deep in Pilton mud about now, so our thoughts go out to him.
If you didn’t manage to get tickets you can keep up to date via the little widget thing we have going on over on the right. Not sure how it works yet but I’m sure you’ll get the hang.
Matchsticks. What we’ve been using to keep our eyes open as we finally get issue 5 off to press. Barry, I’m sorry about the error in your bit. I’m a bad, tired fool.
The rest of you can expect to see the next issue very soon indeed. Love ‘n’ respek.
In Loving memory of Rob Jefferies.
We all would like to thank the many people have who have shown love and support in the last couple of weeks. We are amazed at the strength that Kev and Marie Jefferies have shown. They are truly brilliant people and they raised a truly brilliant lad and hes a credit to the family. Thanks again Jeffry for the fun times. May you rest in peace.
From all those who loved you.
Tom Fleming.
I don’t quite know where to start, trying to explain what Rob Jefferies was like is impossible to sum up in a paragraph. Jefferies, as we all called him, was and is truly a best friend to many. An honest and genuine person, a hardworking and loyal person, a funny and down to earth person. The sort of person we all aim to be but don’t always become. Jefferies never settled for second best, in himself or in his friends. He had just completed a three year course in Graphic Communication at Bath University, cut short of the amazing future that was rightfully his. He possessed such talent and passion for his work, always busying himself with project after project. His website is rob-jefferies.co.uk and that will prove how quite incredible and talented he was. He worked hard but he played hard too, always up for going the pub and socializing with everyone. His cheeky grin brought a smile to all of our faces all of the time. And I am so thankful that all the memories of him are good. Rob Jefferies was a big piece to all of the lives of his family and friends, an irreplaceable piece that we all want back so badly. He will be forever loved, forever missed but never ever forgotten.
Pippa Russell
